The Role
Etraveli Group relies on a massive scale of data to drive decision-making, analytics, and machine learning across Finance, Customer Service, Sales, and Data Science. To support our ambitious growth targets and the ongoing transformation of our data platform, we are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to serve as a pivotal technical engine in our Data Platform team.
You will work closely with our business stakeholders, analysts and data scientists defining data solutions and implementing data products that solve their needs. You will bridge the gap between raw, distributed data sources and high-performing data products, bringing critical data into our lakehouse platform and preparing it for diverse users. You will support the growth of our modern, scalable data warehouse solutions, ensuring our data pipelines are reliable, secure and deeply integrated into our tech ecosystem.
This is not a purely isolated technical role. The right person can understand underlying business needs – from pricing and conversion to revenue optimization – and answer questions on feasibility by selecting the right industry-leading frameworks, ETL patterns and orchestration tools. You will build solutions that don't just look conceptually good, but actually deliver robust data quality and solve high-stakes complexities within Etraveli.
The role will be based in Gothenburg.
Main tasks
Design, develop, and maintain robust batch and streaming pipelines tailored to business intelligence, machine learning and other stakeholders needs.
Interpret, analyse and ingest data from a variety of cloud and on-premise source systems into our expanding data lakehouse platform.
Evaluate, integrate, and configure industry-leading frameworks and tooling for our Data Engineering platform, prioritizing scalability, optimization/performance and maintainability.
Define and enforce rigorous data quality standards, implementing relevant monitoring and alerting solutions to ensure high data integrity.
Work closely with ML Engineers, core backend developers, DBAs, and business stakeholders to prioritize information needs, create synergies and optimize existing data pipelines.
Ensure high-performance data processing and query execution by applying techniques like indexing, partitioning, caching and efficient data modeling.
Champion technical excellence by promoting best practices in data engineering, sharing status updates, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning within the team.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing or a comparable technical role
Strong foundation in data warehousing concepts (Star and Snowflake schemas, Slowly Changing Dimensions, Incremental Loads) and translating business requirements into optimal data models
Proven hands-on experience building and testing batch and streaming pipelines. Familiarity with distributed query engines and processing tools (Spark, dbt, Dremio/Trino, Databricks) as well as orchestration (Airflow)
Proficiency in SQL and multiple scripting/programming languages such as Python, Scala and Bash.
Deep understanding of data lakehouse architectures, utilizing object storage (S3/Ceph), modern table formats (Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake for ACID transactions/time-travel) and data formats (Parquet, Avro, JSON, CSV)
Experience with distributed messaging systems (Kafka) and Change Data Capture (CDC) tools (Debezium, Flink CDC, Kafka Connect)
Comfortable working with Linux, Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Artifactory) and monitoring/alerting stacks (Grafana, Kibana). Note: Experience with secrets management (Vault) is a strong merit
